Students of the French partner university ENSEA, who had an online internship “Machine Learning in Power Industry” at Ural Federal University, successfully defended their projects
This year, 6 students from France had online internship at UrFU. The Department of International Educational Programs, together with Ural Power Engineering Institute and Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics, organized an internship for the partner university ENSEA. Industrial partner of the internship was SVEL Company Group, one of the leading Russian manufacturers of electrotechnical equipment.
On Friday, July 10, students had an online defence of their projects. The moderators of the final presentation were the heads of the internship Stanislav Eroshenko and Alexandra Khalyasmaa (representatives of Ural Power Engineering Institute). Among the board of experts there were Deputy Director of the Department of International Educational Programs UrFU, Stefanie Flint Luh, International Relation Manager of ENSEA Stefanie Flint Luh, PR-manager of SVEL Company Group Anastasia Adamovich, Head of SVEL design group Philip Kuzmin, Senior Lecturer at Novosibirsk State Technical University Pavel Matrenin, Assistant at Institute of Natural Sciences and Mathematics Alexander Bersenev. The expert board actively participated in the process by asking questions and making comments after the defence of each of the participants.
The task for project formed by SVEL Company Group was “Power Transformer Technical State Assessment”. Each participant presented his own way and algorithm for solving this problem.
The expert board nominated two finalists of the internships: Youcef Salah and Tusanth Thalayasingam. Students will have an opportunity to publish the results of their research in a journal with SCOPUS and Web of Science indexation.
“I hear these wonderful feedback from our students and I am so happy that we cooperate with UrFU. I will definitely come to Ekaterinburg. During the unstable situation in the world many of our students` plans have been cancelled, for example, one of our students was supposed to go for an internship to Germany, but it was canceled at the last moment. Thank you for not stepping back and organizing this event,” says Stephanie Flint Luh.
All students received Internship Certificates from UrFU and a letter of recommendation from SVEL Company Group. The Department of International Educational Programs has prepared memorable gifts from UrFU that will be mailed to students to remember the Internship.
“For all of us, this internship was a step from comfort zone, but we are glad that we were able to accomplish it together. All of the students have done tremendous work on the project and we will be glad to continue further work on the projects in the format of joint articles. We will be happy if in the future students can to come to Yekaterinburg and visit our university and SVEL Company Group, as well as meet lecturers and organizers in person,” says Stanislav Eroshenko in his final speech to students.
The meeting was also attended by volunteers who were teaching students Russian language, showing Ekaterinburg and cooking pancakes online.
“I want to thank the lecturers and organizers. Based on the feedback from previous years we knew from the very beginning that the internship is going to be amazing. It is a shame we could not visit Russia and be with you”, said one of the students.
We remind that this is the 5th internship organized for students of the French partner university ENSEA at Ural Federal University. Information about the beginning of the internship can be found here.
